Project 1 Description
It is beneficial to listen to music and podcasts while working, this allows users to concentrate and feel energized. But, because of office sound pollution, it becomes a barrier to listen to audio out loud without disturbing others; and using headphones creates a social barrier that prevents easy collaboration and productivity. Tone gives users a personal audio device that allows them to moderate interruptions through device communication as well as signal to others when they are available to communicate. This helps the user and those around them create a productive and collaborative space.
Project 2 Description
Issues in many aspects of home exercise such as, space, set-up, equipment availability, and cleanliness, as well as de-motivating factors create barriers to successfully completing and enjoying the process. This discourages users from habitually returning to the process and reaping the full benefits that exercise provides. Rise helps users be healthier at home and stay motivated by creating convenience, efficient goal tracking, connectivity, expertise and music. Its modular design is made to fit multiple users and price points. This project received an honorable mention at this year's International Housewares Show Student Design Competition.
Project 3 Description
The design of this package was my contribution in a group project with the student Global Health Design Collaborative. The Sayana Press is a single use injectable female contraceptive targeted for use in Uganda, that gives women the ability to make family planning decisions. However, there is a large issue with this device. Many women dispose of it in their pit latrines causing residual hormone to seep into the local water supplies, harming others. This package design uses activated charcoal to neutralize the hormone and create a safer disposal method. It also improves distribution and helps users track injections.
Bio
Hi, I'm Maddie Bauer, an industrial designer graduating from the Cleveland Institute of Art’s class of 2020. What I enjoy most about industrial design is the opportunity for new challenges and problems to solve along with the opportunity to create form and aesthetics that appeal to the consumer. It is my goal to use design to solve problems and improve the quality of life for as many individuals as possible.
