Project 1 Description
HanD Pen: An insulin pen designed for individuals living with both arthritis and diabetes. After conducting research with arthritis and diabetes specialists, I set out to design an insulin pen with a separate accessory that would address identified challenges. This pen is designed to be compatible with standard insulin pen supplies. The separate accessory functions as both an injection site tracker and suction aid to eliminate the need to pinch skin.

Project 2 Description
Handyl: A product that sanitizes both communal surfaces and the user’s own hands. This was my submission for the Bompas & Parr Fountain of Hygiene: Sanitizer Design Competition. The challenge was to design an enhanced sanitizer in response to COVID-19. My concept is intended to reduce the amount of waste generated by popular sanitizing products and is inspired by the hand soap sheets already on the market. This product has broad utility, including but not limited to subway cars, buses, supermarket trolleys, and railings. It can also be used domestically at a smaller scale.

Project 3 Description
B3: Inspired by mid-century modern design, B3 is my attempt to attribute new materials to this beloved design movement. While the beveled edge and straightforward form pay tribute to tradition, the palm wood reveals, lacquer and brass finish modernize its appearance. This project was one of two furniture designs that I designed and managed the production of during my last internship at a furniture manufacturing shop.

Bio
My name is Julia and I am always looking for new and exciting design opportunities to enhance the user's daily life. My half Chinese-Malaysian and half British heritage provided me the opportunity to travel, giving me a broad view of the world which greatly influences my work. I also find inspiration in the small details of everyday life. While at Pratt, I fell in love with ideating, designing, and subsequently making products. I hope to work on a range of projects within a tightly knit, team based design studio environment.
